The verification trap
Google's verification process has tightened — postcard waits can be 3+ weeks, video verification has strict requirements, and a failed verification can lock the listing for 30 days. Most DIY setups fail verification at least once.

Google has 4,000+ business categories with subtle distinctions. Pick "Restaurant" instead of "Italian Restaurant" and you compete with all restaurants instead of ranking high in your specific niche. The right primary + secondary category combination can move you from page 3 to page 1.

Frequently asked questions
I already have a GBP — do I need this?
Maybe. Run a quick check: log into your GBP dashboard and look at the completeness score. If it's under 100%, or if you haven't added a post or photo in 6+ months, or if the categories were chosen by someone who didn't research them — there's real upside in cleaning it up. We can do a free 10-minute review and tell you honestly whether the work is worth doing.
How does verification work in 2026?
Google has tightened verification significantly. The most common path is video verification — you record a 1–2 minute walk-through of your business location showing the exterior signage, interior, and equipment, plus uploading any required documents. Postcard verification still exists but is slower. Phone verification is rare and usually only for established businesses with strong existing signals. We handle whichever path Google requires.
What if my business is service-area only (no public location)?
Common — many Suncoast service businesses (cleaning, plumbing, mobile repair, freelancers) are service-area only. We'll mark the profile as service-area, hide the address, and define your geographic service zones (e.g. "20-mile radius from Sarasota" or specific cities like Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice, Lakewood Ranch). Verification for service-area businesses uses video walk-through of your home office or service vehicle.
Will I lose my existing reviews if you create a new listing?
No — we never create a duplicate listing. If you have an existing unmanaged listing (one created automatically by Google or a customer), we'll claim it through Google's standard ownership-request process. All existing reviews stay attached. If for some reason your existing listing was suspended or merged into another business, we'll work through Google's reinstatement process before creating anything new.
What's the difference between this and ongoing Local SEO?
GBP Setup is a one-time project that gets you to a fully optimized starting position. Local SEO Management is the recurring service ($400+/mo) that keeps the profile actively maintained — weekly posts, daily review responses, citation building, ranking tracking. Many clients do the one-time setup, run it themselves for a few months, then upgrade to ongoing management once they see the work involved in maintaining it well.
Can you fix a suspended GBP?
Yes — GBP reinstatement is a separate project ($500–$1,000 depending on complexity) because the work involves communicating with Google's policy team, gathering evidence of business legitimacy, and sometimes appealing multiple times. Suspensions are usually due to category mismatches, virtual office addresses, or perceived duplicate listings.
How many photos do I need to upload?
Minimum recommended: 1 logo, 1 cover photo, 5–10 interior, 5–10 exterior, 3–5 team, 5–10 work-in-progress or product photos. Total around 20–30 images for a small business. Phone photos are fine (modern iPhones and Pixels produce great GBP photos). We'll send you a shot list of exactly what to capture.
Do you guarantee verification?
For legitimate, established businesses with a real location or service area: yes, in 99%+ of cases. The 1% involves edge cases like home-office businesses with shared addresses, or businesses Google has flagged for review. If verification fails twice for reasons outside our control, we refund the verification portion of the project ($100) and help you understand what Google is asking for.
Do I get the login credentials?
Absolutely — the GBP is owned by you, in your name, with your Google account. We are added as a Manager (not the owner) so we can do the setup work. After handoff you can remove our access at any time. We never hold credentials hostage.
What happens if Google deprecates or changes a feature?
GBP changes constantly. The 30-day post-setup support window covers any Google-side changes that affect your profile during that window. After 30 days, ongoing changes (Google deprecating posts, adding new attribute types, etc.) are handled via Local SEO Management subscription or pay-per-update.
